Is conlanging (creating your own languages) inexcusably nerdy?

I am really into languages and this has been a hobby of mine for several years. However, I am concerned that this might come off as off-puttingly geeky to other people rather than interesting and imaginative. I know that J.R.R. Tolkien made his own languages, but even he was hesitant to share this hobby with others, calling it his "secret vice."
