Alfa spider for everyday use?

Im looking to buy an alfa spider for everyday use. i would like to know which model will be better - im looking at a '76 model and a '83 model. i test drove the '76 yesterday but im not so sure if it will do the job for everyday commuting - im not so sure about the carburetor. any info will be great...
